Her nursing career began in the United States Air Force in 2001, where she served as a medic, corpsman, and emergency medical technician (EMT). During her deployment to Afghanistan in 2007, she provided care for military personnel and civilians in medical and surgical wards. In 2008, Joyce earned an Associate Degree in Health and Allied Science and advanced her career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She graduated with honors from Pacific Union College with an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing in 2010 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015.
As a registered nurse, Joyce started as a nurse supervisor in public health with Community Medical Centers and the Family Practice Clinic in Dixon, California, where she discovered her passion for wellness advocacy. Throughout her career, she has mentored many aspiring nurses and been inspired by several mentors, including FNP Karen Sprague, who significantly influenced her professional growth and drive to provide excellent patient care.
Over the past 14 years, Joyce has accumulated extensive experience in acute care settings, including the Emergency Room (ER) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kaiser Permanente facilities in Vacaville and Vallejo, California. She has contributed valuable care plans in both clinic and bedside environments. She holds certifications as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
Joyce has continually pursued further education to focus on preventative healthcare and wellness. She completed her clinical preceptorship in Family Practice at Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo in 2022 and 2023, with a focus on primary care, obstetrics, and pediatrics. She returned to Dixon in early 2023 to work alongside her mentor, Karen Sprague, who continues to support her career in Family Practice. Joyce graduated with honors from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California, where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2023.
In her spare time, Joyce enjoys quality adventures with her husband, their eight children, and three dogs. She loves reading, working out, running, biking, and engaging in activities near the water.
