This COVID-19 Antigen test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay used for the qualitative recognition of the nucleocapsid protein antigen from the virus SARS-CoV-2 in nasopharyngeal swab collected from COVID-19 suspected persons by their healthcare provider within five days of symptom onset. The SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein antigen is commonly evident in nasal swab for the duration of the acute phase of virus.
Positive results signify the occurrence of virus-related antigens, but the medical association with patient’s record and other indicative data is crucial to verify presence of infection. Negative results are probable and therefore diagnostic verification should performed if necessary.
Negative results are not the only basis for care or clinical management. A patient’s latest exposure to the virus, medical history and occurrence of COVID-19 signs and symptoms.
