What ROI is typically produced by an on-site clinic?

Your clinic will begin saving you money on day one. By eliminating claims and administrative costs, we can deliver more care in the clinic for less money than your health plan. With HCS, we work to save you money in many areas including: primary care, pharmacy, workers compensation return to work plans, referrals to specialists, productivity/absenteeism, labs and decrease ER and urgent care visits. You will achieve significant savings by transferring utilization to the clinic and eliminating claims with your health insurance plan. Savings will vary depending on participation and the plan design. First year results indicate 5% reduction in total claims and 21% reduction in primary care claims. Primary care is greatly affected because the clinic services reduce the need for participants to use their health insurance for primary care. Pharmacy savings are approximately 53% due to changing behavioral patterns for our patients by promoting the use of generic medication. Urgent care visits will decrease because these patients are seen in your on-site clinic. ER and catastrophic claims will decrease because of the implementation of preventative care, wellness and disease management.

How are medical records stored and confidentiality assured?

Since 2004, Healthcare Solutions has utilized a customized Electronic Medical Records (EMR) program which allows all medical records to be stored electronically on our own remote servers with multiple layers of security.  The on-site clinic does not produce a paper trail.  All information is stored electronically at the remote location only- no patient information is stored at the individual on-site clinics. A third party with experience in electronic security oversees medical records storage.  All patient confidentiality practices and technology are audited periodically.

What are the benefits of utilizing an EMR at the clinic?

HCS and our highly skilled IT department work directly with the EMR designer, Bizmatics PrognoCis, to develop and implement a completely customized EMR that continually meets and exceeds the industry’s best practices. HCS is continually building upon the EMR software to facilitate capturing the clinic data in the most innovative ways possible. HCS has built clinical guidelines and risk management tools into the EMR to allow for advanced disease management. The EMR is a fully-integrated solutions consisting of the PrognoCIS EMR, PrognoCIS patient portal and PrognoCIS eTools, which includes data analysis and sending prescriptions directly to pharmacies electronically (eRX). Our patient labs are imported directly into their charts and this allows for continual monitoring of disease management.

Why is using a certified EMR important?

HCS utilizes PrognoCIS, v2.0, which is certified as an ONC-ATCB Complete EMR by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT). This certification means that the EMR meets the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services criteria for meaningful use and it allows the utilizing provider to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Certified EMRs have passed multiple assurance tests by independently operated programs to attest to its functions, interoperability and security.

What kinds of employers can benefit from an on-site clinic?

A workplace clinic is an ideal solution for a self-funded employer with over 200 employees working at a single location.  Healthcare Solutions works with employers to create a completely customized clinic model that is tailored to fit your company’s specific needs. HCS will work within your company’s budget to design and implement an on-site clinic that will best fit your corporate needs.

Who can use the clinic?

For maximum savings and efficiency, employers are encouraged to make the clinic available to all employees and dependents that are covered on the employer’s health insurance plan.

Why is it important to become an established patient at the on-site clinic?

HCS recommends that all benefited employees become an established patient in the clinic. By being an established patient, HCS will be able to triage the patient’s symptoms over the phone and treat appropriately. We can to refill most medications without an office visit as well as give medical advice.  HCS has all electronic medical records and we do not have to be at your clinic to treat your employees.  No matter how many days a week you have contracted at your clinic, we are available to your employees 5 days a week.  However, we will not be able to treat new patients through telemedicine because we will not have a health history or assessment for them.

Will employees choose to use the clinic?

Typically, employees and families are incentivized to use the on-site clinic because of the convenience factor and because the clinic is a free service.  A workplace clinic provides families with superior care as compared to a conventional practice, and most employees will choose to come back because of their positive experience with the clinic.  A typical clinic will see 75%- 85% employee utilization within the first year.

Will my employees still need their healthcare insurance?

The clinic is not designed to replace your health plan, but instead to complement and augment your existing medical benefits. The on-site clinic provides your employee’s healthcare that is no cost, convenient and employees seek treatment for wellness, preventative care, episodic urgent care, prescription fills, injuries, and disease management. Your clinic will act as a "partner" with the employees’ other practitioners and, if authorized by the patient, HCS will directly collaborate with all practitioners involved in the employees’ care. This collaboration directly reduces unnecessary repeat visits to various specialists and duplication of medical costs.

Does HCS have collaborating specialists to refer patients to as needed?

Quality of care, cost-efficiency and convenience make on-site clinics a superior alternative to traditional health care.  As an on-site clinic provider, HCS has a network of collaborating specialists. These specialists are board certified and patients can generally get an appointment the same day or within a week.

Why contract with a third-party (outside vender)?

Medical care is not a core competency for most organizations.  By contracting with a vender like HCS we will have the expertise in everything from employee data confidentiality to medical malpractice and biomedical waste disposal.  Additionally, an internally-managed clinic, as opposed to a third-party, may send a negative message to employees who may fear that their privacy could be violated by the employer.

What are the typical square footage requirements for your clinics?  Do you require water and/or restrooms to be included inside the clinic?

Healthcare Solutions Centers typically has clinics that are between 300-400 square feet.  We utilize existing office space and the only requirements of the room are that it be equipped with a high speed DSL internet connection, a computer, a printer/scanner/fax machine, small refrigerator for medications, a telephone and a desk.  It is not required to have water and/or restrooms inside of the clinic, but we would prefer close access to a restroom to make things easier for the patients.

How are on-site clinics typically staffed?

HCS clinics are staffed with certified Family Nurse Practitioners.  We take the time to get to know your company’s culture and needs. HCS’ goal is to provide your company with a Nurse Practitioner that will be compatible with your company’s culture and become your employees’ healthcare advocate and provider. HCS practitioners develop trusting relationships with your employees. The relationship is built through longer, more frequent face-to-face encounters that emphasize on wellness, prevention, education and disease management. Our practitioners work with your employees to take charge of their health and become healthy and productive employees.
